Recycling

Community Meeting

The award winning recycling program at Northwest State is designed and directed by E4S, but fully maintained by the student group, S4S. Since 2006, student volunteers have collected over 60,000 pounds of recyclables (paper, cardboard, cans and bottles) Click here for a list of what is and is not recyclable. These students' efforts are helping to preserve landfill space, protect local soils and water from contamination, reduce fossil fuel use and carbon emissions, and save the College on waste disposal fees.

The recycling program also provides a “community drop-off” site to serve all students and staff with their recyclables from home.

Beginning in 2007, Northwest State entered Recyclemania, the national recycling competition for U.S. colleges and universities. In 2008, the College received the first place prize for “Waste Minimization” and finished in the top 10 nationally for overall recycling efficiency. The recycling program continued the pace in 2009 with a top five finish in “Waste Minimization” and a top 20 finish for the “Grand Prize.”  For more information on Recyclemania, go to: www.recyclemania.org.
